Teaching writing

A. WHAT IS WRITING

      Writing skills is one of the 4 English language skills in addition to listening, speaking and reading. Writing skills include productive or produce other than speaking skills. Writing learning in schools has not been through the correct process. Teachers often delegates the task of writing without giving proper steps to be able to produce good work.
      Significant obstacles that support teachers and students to achieve optimal writing competence, to be able to produce various types of texts are “write and write about the process of learninf write.

       Furthermore Carderonello and Edwards (1986:5) writing is not simply a matter of putting words together, it is a recursive process, it is a process of revision and rewriting. Teaching writing means we create a pedagogy that help students see writing as continous process of revising and rewriting as they ivent, plan, draft their text.

B. PROCESS OF WRITING

1.Inventing: Namely to find and generate ideas / ideas of students, what will students write or tell, steps can find ideas in many ways such as reading, talking, brainstorming, questions, etc. mindmapping.

2.Planning: the stages of how students are trying to determine how to convey ideas. This stage students will be raised the issue, purpose, reader, text structure and tone of the text to be written.

3.Drafting: In this stage, students tried to form a material or materials into text. Draft sustainable written, from draft 1, draft 2 and draft 3 to be the final result.

4.Revising: revise including adding a new idea, another idea of eliminating some of the words or ideas that do not need or reconstruct what has been written in the draft.

5.Editing: Editing is polishing a piece of writing from various aspects such as, spelling, tenses, choice of words and others

C. FREE WRITING

     Free writing is good way to start students writing skills. Students are given limited time in class for example 10 minutes, given a stimulus to generate ideas / ideas and allowed them to write whatever is on their minds. Stimulation must be given by the teacher, because without the stimulation given, a sudden writing assignment will make students frustrated and do not know how to start. Giving stimulation or exposure to generating ideas can generate various technique.

C. 10 TEACHING STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE WRITING

Photographs can be used as teaching straategies
Challenge students to search their family photos, and look through maagazines, books, newspapers, or even the Sunday funnies to find a little writing inspiration.

Graphic organizers
Graphic organizers are great for visual learners,and anyone who needs to see their ideas in an organized manner. Try using a story map to motivate students and get them writing.

Audio record it
Get your audio recording gear out and lets students record their writing. This is fun way for students speak what they want to say versus actually printing it.

Audio transcribe it
It is a fun for students to write their essay or story. If you like, you can then have students print out what they just wrote, and use that as their first draft.

Peer talks
Pair students together into teams of two, and have each students take turns writing down what the others person say. Students will get a kick out of having their partner do all the writing for them.

Story startes
One of the easiest strategies to get students writing is to give them  a story starter or writing prompt.

Create a name
Encourage the students to make up a  name.

Spin a wheel
A fun and creative way to get students writing is to have them create a writing wheel that they can spin each time they need something to write about.

Create a contest
Creat a write contets where the students compete not only againts each other but their peers online too.

Integrate art

To get a keep students engaged to try integrating atwork into their writing. Allow students to branstrom their writing ideas through pictures and drawing or just add them to their storiess.
